Georgi Parvanov and Angel Marin won the run-off presidential elections with the impressive result of 75.9% of the votes. The opponents Volen Siderov – Pavel Shopov got 24.1% of the votes.

“If the first round is a race and choice between personalities, the vote on October 29th is an original referendum on the way the nation will develop over the next years – whether we will go back to the times of discords, malice, and opposing as an end in itself, or we will prove that we can be united in this crucial moment for us, for our children, and for the nation. 1,780,119 Bulgarian citizens have supported the candidate president couple Georgi Parvanov – Amgel Marin at the first round of the presidential elections that were held in Bulgaria on Sunday, October 22nd, 2006, the central Election Commission announced officially today. According to the deputy chairman of the Commission Alexandar Petrov the support given to Parvanov and Marin stands at 64.05%.
