Born in Batak on January 8, 1942
1960: Finishes secondary school in Devin
1960-1965: Takes a five-year training course in Ground Artillery at the Higher Military Artillery School of Shoumen and acquires civilian higher education qualifications as Radio Electronics Engineer
Officer’s rank at the start of service: Lieutenant Engineer
1965-1974: Various positions in the Missile Forces, including Launch Crew Chief, Launcher Platoon Commander and Launcher Battery Commander
1974-1978: Training at the Military Artillery Academy of St Petersburg (Leningrad). Graduates in Command and Staff Operational Studies with a gold medal and gets higher military education
1978-1980: Missile Battalion Commander in Stara Zagora
1980-1982: Artillery Regiment Commander, Stara Zagora
1982-1987: Chief of Missile Forces and Artillery, 2nd Division, Stara Zagora
1987-1990: Missile Forces and Artillery Commander, 3rd Army, Sliven
1990-1998: Missile Forces and Artillery Commander, Ground Forces of the Bulgarian Armed Forces
1991: Promoted to Major General
1998: Discharged from the Bulgarian Army over his objections to the manner of Army reform and goes into retirement
Author of the book “The Last War”
Married. His son is a biologist, leader of the Green Balkans Movement. His daughter is an economist. Two grandchildren
November 2001: Elected Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria. Inaugurated on January 22, 2002. |
